About The Institute
The Institute of Funeral Business Management is registered in Zimbabwe as a training and research institution focusing on skills and information development for the funeral industry and related sectors. It offers training and certification on both long and short courses while acting as an independent examining body to those pursuing qualification and skills in the funeral industry.
The institute also carries out research, conduct workshops and seminars, investigate funeral practices and related issues in order to provide valuable information to businesses, government, civic organisations and the general public.
About the Funeral Profession
The funeral services sector is essentially involved with ensuring the proper and professional disposal of human remains and holding of funeral ceremonies for the bereaved families. It also includes funeral assurance and the subsequent preparation of the deceased for burial in line with set standards and regulation.
Funeral practitioners play a very special and peculiar role in the society. The activities involved in funeral services are very numerous, diverse and sometimes complex such that those involved with the sector have to possess the relevant skills if they are to offer quality service to those who need it.

Objectives
- To enlarge the understanding and knowledge of the funeral profession through training.
- To qualify people as funeral practitioners in accordance with a comprehensive and relevant scheme of examination, practical experience and continuing professional development.
- To create a knowledge bank for the funeral profession by carrying out appropriate research
- To demystify the myths surrounding the funeral profession through impartation of appropriate knowledge.
- To ensure that the funeral industry is served by people with appropriate knowledge that meets stakeholder expectation.
- To raise the profile of the profession through increased awareness of the contribution made by funeral practitioners to the society.
